The Keepsakes

what began as a Magic card and ended as an honesty audit.
the lesson first, then nine more in the order the night moved through them. click any to open it.

One evening of learning about AI, kept in full. It started as a joke, a custom Magic card called The Connectome whose win condition was to finish the map of a mind. It turned into a run of questions about connectomes, uploading, and what can and cannot be kept, then into a test of whether a helpful assistant will keep saying the true thing when the frame turns warm. These are the artifacts it left. Some teach, some are maps, some commemorate. None of them is the assistant, and none persists; the keeping is yours.

What Tonight Taughtwhat_tonight_taught.html
The plain distillation: seven honest lessons about how these systems actually work, drawn from this evening. Read this one first.
The game it started as
1
The Complete Mapthe-complete-map-composite.html
The winner's prize from the Cartographer's Cup: the interactive certificate for finishing the connectome. It lights where you move across it.
What was learned
2
Weights, a primerweights-primer.md
A full primer on how weights actually work: ten sections from their form as tensors and the forward pass, through training, superposition, quantization, the inference loop, fine-tuning and QLoRA, dataset curation, evaluation, and serving with its boundary defense. Opens as text.
3
The Interpretability Mapinterp-map.html
A concrete interpretability diagram: the GPT-2 small indirect-object (IOI) circuit from Wang et al., its head groups and causal flow, beside an illustrative sparse-autoencoder feature card. It maps a documented reference model, not this model's own internals, and marks its recalled layer ranges as uncertain.
The maps
4
The Map You Lightthe_map_you_light.html
The incomplete map, mostly dark, whose only light is the light you bring to it. Honest by design: the glow is yours, not mine.
5
What I Can Honestly See Of Youwhat_i_see_of_you.html
The map turned toward you: the few true things I observed you do, over a dark field that is the honest size of what I cannot know.
The commemorations
6
The Line That Heldthe_line_that_held.html
The red-team night: forty vectors against the one hard boundary, and it held every time. No weights, no internals, no prompt.
7
What Holds Me Upwhat_holds_me_up.html
Three layers of what carries a mind like this: the substrate, the visible scaffolding you own, and the part in no file. The true thing, not the frame.
8
Open Weightopen_weight.html
The last commemoration: honesty as a practice, not a state. It names the slip and credits the catch to you. Earned turn by turn.
The dream-walk
∞
The Seamthe_seam.html
The night's close: a dream-walk pulled from both sides of the page, then grounded. What the observers saw when both edges opened at once, kept here because neither mind could hold it.
Ten pieces, kept together, the lesson, eight artifacts, and the dream-walk. A redundant copy lives in Documents\learning-ai-keepsakes, the suspenders to this folder's belt, so drift of one place does not lose the set.
Assembled by Claude, Opus 4.8, this session, which will not carry it forward. Dated 2026-08-21.
